4:00PM SUNDAY 28TH JAN – OCHO RIOS – A TALK WITH QUEEN IFRICA
Queen Ifrica, is highly regarded as one of Jamaica’s most powerful contemporary voices. She performs around the world to rave reviews at major festivals and concerts (Summer Jam in Germany, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Bob Marley Festival, Reggae on the River in California and Reggae Sundance Festival in Holland). One of her earlier hits "Daddy Don't Touch Me There" had a huge impact across Jamaica and the world serving as a kind of #Metoo for many women and girls across Jamaica, but despite it's impact the song was banned from the airwaves. We discuss with Queen Ifrica the journey, experiences and impact of that song and her other works, and her perspective on violence against women and girls.
